Is the winter season a good time to list your property?Without a doubt, winter is a great time to sell! Listing your home in the winter is a great strategy. Typically inventory is low, making it a seller’s market.
Of course, it does come with its challenges. Here are 4 tips to help you make your house look its best for potential buyers:
1) Clear snow from footpaths
It is important to maintain your curb appeal. That means keeping your driveway, walkway and sidewalk clear of snow. Good lighting is essential. Daylight is at a premium in the winter, so keeping your porch light on and your walkway lit is a must! In every home, it is a challenge to keep your boots, snow pants and coats out of the foyer/entry, but keeping that area clear of clutter will pay off as potential buyers see this area first, and they’ll decide whether to buy in seconds.
2) Heating is a must
An easy way to make your home feel cozy and inviting is to keep your thermostat at a comfortable temperature. Fireplaces are great selling features at this time of year, so if you have one, make sure you have a fire roaring.
3) Eliminate odours
If hockey is a big part of your winter activities, keep in mind that many love the sport but
not the smelly equipment. It is important to keep the equipment somewhere that buyers won’t spend the viewing wondering what that smell is.
4) Let there be light
Interior and exterior lighting are equally important. Keeping your lights on is best. Again you don’t want potential buyers to think your house is dark and dreary.
No matter when you decide to sell your home – winter, spring, summer or fall – always take your time and make necessary updates to receive the best return on your investment.
