We were overjoyed to host our Client Appreciation Event and celebrate the launch of Gem Home Staging & Designs recently at an intimate outdoor concert in Colleen’s backyard.

So many of you came out to help us celebrate, savour a delicious barbecue dinner and enjoy the music of Harvest, who performed tributes to Neil Young, The Eagles and many other classic rock and country favourites. We want to thank you for attending, and for your encouragement and support as we establish and grow our business.

We were also delighted to receive recognition from the City of St. Catharines and our Member of Parliament. City of St. Catharines councillor Joe Kushner made a surprise visit to present a certificate on behalf of Mayor Walter Sendzik, the City and its citizens, while a certificate from Member of Parliament Chris Bittle arrived in the mail.

Our clients and community are the backbone of GEM. Many of you have supported us as independent business owners and we’re humbled by your continued loyalty as we embark on our partnership. Without you, we wouldn’t have launched our business to such resounding success. We look forward to many years of eliminating our clients’ stress and helping them make their home selling experience as smooth as possible.

While we celebrated, we also honoured the memory of Colleen’s son Rob and paid tribute to a number of other close friends and family members who are either battling cystic fibrosis (including Colleen’s daughter Karen) or who have lost loved ones to this devastating genetic disease that does not yet have a cure. CF affects an estimated one in every 3,600 children born in Canada.

With your help, we raised more than $800 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, which funds world-class research and supports and advocates for high-quality, individualized CF care. Rob’s family and many others have been devastated by his loss, but we are committed to helping other families and Canadians living with this disease. While Colleen’s family was directly and tragically impacted by Rob’s battle with CF, Lynn has also played an instrumental role in supporting the cause. As a mother of two children, she relates to the pain and emotional trauma of dealing with chronically ill children and a parent’s worst nightmare – the death of a child. The fight continues in Rob’s memory and in support of Karen, who courageously fights her own daily battle with CF.

Here are the names of the many in attendance who have been personally affected by CF:

• Wendy and Mark Wilkie – former Kinsmen & Kinettes and current Kinsmen Stephen Bronn are huge supporters
• Amy Layton – lost her childhood best friend Angel from Blind River, Ontario
• Nancy Clayton – co-founder of the Niagara chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Canada who lost her 16-year-old son Chris
• Kim Schwenker – daughter had two double lung transplants unrelated to CF but spent a lot of time on the CF ward and transplant centre with CF patients
• Brent Roubos – has cousins affected by CF
• Miranda Christoff – friend lost a four-year-old child
• Lou and Sheila Marcantonio – lost a 21-year-old niece
• Dan Pasco, President and CEO of REV Publishing – spent three months on the CF ward and has quite a story to tell. Today Magazine Business published an article about GEM Home Staging & Design’s support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada. (See article with Steve Ludzik, titled Root Cause in volume 2 issue 9 on page 12)

Inspired by her family’s ordeal, Lynn and Colleen launched a charity program that will see three percent of all company sales from Gem donated to Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Donations will help raise awareness of the disease and educate other families about its devastating effects.

We want the community and our clients to know that this is just the start of our journey. We have so much we want to accomplish as we grow our business and we look forward to working with all of you in the next few years. Thank you, again, for all of your continued support!
