home stager meets client

By now, you’ve watched enough HGTV shows (Flip or Flop, Masters of Flip and Property Brothers to name a few) to understand that home staging is important, but are you prepared for when the home stager knocks on your door?

Most homeowners require at least a slight shift in mindset when it comes to working with a home stager. Here are some tips for making an easy transition from homeowner to seller:

1) Detach yourself from your home’s decor and keepsakes

Once you make the decision to sell, your home becomes a house. Detach yourself from your preferences around decor and displaying keepsakes, because although you may still be living there, your focus must be on preparing and marketing your property to get top dollar.

2) Focus on your potential buyer

The stager steps onto your property with a buyer’s eye and although their recommendations may seem harsh, they have nothing to do with your personal style or taste. Your goal is to attract the right buyers to fall in love with the property.

3) Give serious consideration to the home stager’s suggestions

Prepare yourself. Be open to receiving and acting on the home stager’s advice, which should be delivered tactfully but honestly. Besides recommending some updates, colour changes and possible renovations, they could suggest replacing the dated furnishing with a current look giving the property a model home look.

So, when that home stager comes knocking, keep an open mind to their recommendations because they were made thoughtfully and with the best of intentions – to arm the seller with best tools to get their property sold!
